The funny thing about the Freedom of Speech,

brittanibotulism:

It’s free.

Meaning you can have it.

And so can I.

Barney Frank and Ron Paul to Introduce Legislation on Thursday that would Fully Legalize Marijuana

goodreasonnews:

stfuconservatives:

“Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will introduce “bi-partisan legislation tomorrow ending the federal war on marijuana and letting states legalize, regulate, tax, and control marijuana without federal interference,” according to a press release”

—-

HURRAY! An end to the drug war, unfair incarcerations, and erasure of people who use medical marijuana! It’s nice to see people working ‘across the aisle’. Legalizing pot isn’t the issue I thought we’d all come together on, but hey, I’m not mad about it.

Because those are two politicians and an issue all of Congress and America take seriously.

I mean, I’m all for it, but it ain’t gonna happen.

I’m very glad to see this. It doesn’t mean I think it’ll pass, but the more it comes to the floor, the changes of re-legalization become greater. Or lessen.

I like seeing liberals and conservatives work together. It’s such a shame it’s become a no-no (to conservatives) to talk with us evil progressives. :\ It’s nice to see there are some mature politicians left.

Oh and I have to give Ron Paul credit. I sometimes agree with him, sometimes not. I don’t like his take on the separation of church and state (or lack thereof!). But I give him credit for saying the same spiel for years. He’s not swayed by what’s popular or who’s not doing what. He’s not ashamed of his accomplishments like Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are. He’s true to his beliefs, which is rare in politics. (Although, I don’t view flip-flopping as always a bad thing. Sometimes, it’s good to change your mind after serious consideration of new evidence.)

I agree with his stance on drugs (yes, all drugs). I also think prostitution should be legal. I’m libertarian on social issues like these, as well as marriage equality. Though, I lean more towards democratic-socialist on some others. I believe in free market. I also think that health should not be on that market. Or education (at least not all). Plus some other things that I seem to think are just plain reasonable.

Atheism is the freedom to admit the emperor is naked. Religion is cowering in fear and complimenting his new clothes.

I retweeted it! But it can’t hurt to reblog as well. ;D GoodReasonNews has some great ones. Many of them are actually pretty funny. And you can’t go wrong with Hypnotoad.

The philosophy of Atheism represents a concept of life without any metaphysical Beyond or Divine Regulator. It is the concept of an actual, real world with its liberating, expanding and beautifying possibilities, as against an unreal world, which, with its spirits, oracles, and mean contentment has kept humanity in helpless degradation.

You cannot be a libertarian

And not believe in freedom. I guess you can, but it would make you more than a hypocrite.

Whether it’s religious freedom, medical freedom, sexual freedom, marriage freedom…

  • Religious Freedom: Theocracy does not go well with libertarianism. So for those tea partiers who believe this nation’s laws should be changed to reflect Christianity, you do not believe in true freedom. Whether you are Muslim, Jewish, Deist, Atheist.. What ever your religious beliefs or personal life philosophies are, you should be able to live your life without fear of a theocratic government in the United States. Want a state controlled by religion where guns are easily available to anyone? Maybe try Somalia.
  • Medical Freedom: Safe, affordable, and attainable health care is key. From abortions to angioplasty to gender reassignment, you should be free to do these procedures without too much hassle. While every procedure may be different, we should all feel free and safe to do what needs to be done. Doctors shouldn’t be harassed and shot for providing safe legal medical procedures. Neither should patients.
  • Sexual Freedom: Sex should not be shamed. It’s natural. And fun. Especially as a women, you should be able to make the same choices men do. Someone in a homosexual relationship, should feel free to be happy. Those in polyamorous and swinging relationships, shouldn’t be shamed either.
  • Marriage Freedom: This mostly speaks toward same-sex marriage. Though for married couples in a heterosexual relationship shouldn’t be pressured to get married. Whether they are married or not, they should not be pressured to have children.

I like being free. I feel held back in many ways, as others do. As a bi/omnisexual woman of Jewish heritage who is an Atheist, uses medical cannabis (as well as non-medical), I feel my freedoms are stifled a bit. I couldn’t run for political office, though all that acid I did in high school may hinder that more. :P

I’m not seen as trustworthy by the religious folks. I’m not seen as trustworthy by some gay and straight people. And the stereotypes that go with cannabis, Fuck! I just want to feel “right”.

Freedom is so very important to me. I’m frustrated with those trying to take away freedoms who say they support freedom. I’m vexed by those wanting to keep others down, hold them back- and call that freedom. I am befuddled. As well as distraught. Conservatism and libertarianism are quite different in many ways. Please, tea partiers and conservatives, stop muddling the libertarian name. Not that I consider myself one, but still… Look things up. Use Google. Or a dictionary. Educate yourselves on word meanings.

It's Time to Fight Back Against Death Threats by Islamic Extremists

Earlier this year, after Comedy Central altered an episode of “South Park” that had prompted threats because of the way it depicted Islam’s prophet Muhammad, Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris proposed an “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.” The idea was, as she put it, to stand up for the 1st Amendment and “water down the pool of targets” for extremists.

The proposal got Norris targeted for assassination by radical Yemeni American cleric Anwar Awlaki, who has been linked to the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight and also to several of the 9/11 hijackers. This month, after warnings from the FBI, Norris went into hiding. The Seattle Weekly said that Norris was “moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity.”

It’s time for free-speech advocates to take a page from the abortion rights movement’s playbook. In the 1990s, abortion providers faced the same sort of intimidation tactics and did not succumb. Instead, they lobbied for a federal law making it a crime to threaten people exercising reproductive rights and permitting victims to sue for damages. The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, or FACE, passed in 1994 by solid bipartisan margins. A similar act is needed to cover threats against free-speech rights.
