Many people have been accused of being racist lately.
I have a feeling that some of it may be overblown or untrue. I don’t know; I can’t read people’s minds. Those who claim to be able to are probably trying to scam you. ;)
In any case, there are a lot of knee-jerk reactions against Obama. I’m sure some are because of his race. But more often than not, it might just be that he’s a democrat. There’s a knee-jerk reaction that republicans have, the loudest ones anyway. Even if they liked the idea before, they’ll immediately hate it just because a democrat embraced it. It seems to have gotten a lot worse lately but it’s not just Obama. It’s Pelosi or Clinton or Wiener or anyone really. Most republicans were for the bailout when Bush was. Then Obama continues the same policy, and they’re all opposed. Most republicans were for the individual mandate. Then Obama brings it on the table to appease them, and they hate it all of a sudden. And the list goes on.
It’s not about policy, it’s about oneupmanship. And it’s getting more disgusting. The loud republicans talk about having an adult conversation but they refused to. They spout the same lines like robots. Some democrats will too, but it’s usually not equivalent. Democrats don’t get a daily email from Fox News (or MSNBC, CNN, etc) with specific talking points.
Then you finally hear Lisa Murkowski say something that’s not totally crazy and wonder why Boehner is such an asshole. The jerks are so loud, they drown out the ones who want to debate about policy and actually work together. They take up all the space, leaving no room for a reasonable discussion.
I’m sure race plays a part. But it’s not the only part. Either way, this ugly knee-jerk reaction needs to stop.
“Now I am happy I did ‘Gone With the Wind.’ I wasn’t when I was 28, but it’s part of black history. You have no idea how hard it is for black actors, but things change, things blossom in time.”—
And, boy, have they changed since then. Things are still a bit off. I remember when Friends got shit for all those white people in New York City. We’re still not there 100% but we have made a lot of progress. Makes me proud of this country. I fully understand Michelle Obama’s infamous line: “For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I’m Really Proud of My Country”. I understood it when I heard it but, now, as it all sinks in; I really grasp it. And the fact that some on the conservative side of the aisle didn’t like it doesn’t surprise me.
Conservative sex education (a personal experience)
Don’t say a word, expect public school system to do it all. Mention something to teenager how you’re there if she has any questions but never say another word. Then, give goofy or judgmental looks when your child asks/says something related. Say it’s not your job, that’s what the school is for. A couple years later, bitch about what the schools are teaching kids. Say that parents should do it.
I am so happy I had sex ed in school. Without it…well…I don’t even want to think about it.
I couldn’t approach the subject with either parent ever. I might expect that from my father…
Sex education is so important. And it needs to start as early as eight. I think mine started around nine (sometime in 3rd grade). Maybe it should start even earlier. (1) kids need to know the difference between good touch and bad touch to report pedophiles, and (2) they need to be prepared for life in general.
I cannot stand the fact that some conservatives want to remove sex ed. If they are responsible parents, they will teach their own kids. But many parents aren’t responsible in this area. It’s too difficult for them. This is why we need sex education. And we need better sex ed, while we’re at it.
For my class, abstinence was stressed as 100% effective for not getting STDs and pregnant. But they also gave us real world information. It’s good to stress to kids that they should wait to have sex. I personally think it’s good to wait until college-age but it’s up to the individual (obviously). I heard the rumors about people in high school and I didn’t want to be one of them. Though I was anyway because guys’ll do that even if you turn them down. But that’s beside the point (and he apologized later on).
Some kids have sex (or some version of) when they’re 7. As long as they’re partner is also 7 (maybe 8)… As long as you are armed with information, you will have much better chances of staying safe.
Abstinence only lessons lead to the most unexpected pregnancies. Because it denies reality.
“Atheists are often charged with blasphemy, but it is a crime they cannot commit. When the Atheist examines, denounces, or satirizes the gods, he is not dealing with persons but with ideas. He is incapable of insulting God, for he does not admit the existence of any such being.”—
“I am an indian and i am very sirprised to know through these blogs and other such forums, that there exists so much debate about the validity of evolution in USA. This country has the highest science and research standards and still some people live in denial and darkness. Makes me sad for the kids though.”—
Some of the other comments on this post about the creation museum are astounding. Someone claims to be a science teacher with evidence for creation. Found where? Oh yeah, the bible. And other’s books (ie Ken Ham) that were written based on what? The bible. In any other argument, if one only pointed back to a single reference or source, they’d be laughed at for their silliness. Or given a failing remark for not understanding the basics of setting up a written argument.
And I couldn’t agree more with his sadness for the kids. :(
Zankou Chicken is a small Mediterranean restaurant chain in California that has the most excellent garlic sauce. Well, it’s more of a paste. And it’s good on almost everything. It’s simple to make. Since I don’t live there anymore, I have to make it.
First of all, let me point out, once and for all (to people who apparently can’t speak English), that atheism is not a belief just because is has an “ism” at the end. Do they know nothing of root derivatives?
To quote Obama, LET ME BE CLEAR. Atheism = “a”, meaning…
And the bold section:
Either you prove to me your God exists by the same standards as anything else I believe, or you call it faith and don’t try to pretend you can prove it to me. And then don’t tell me I’m being mean or unfair when I don’t believe your claims without evidence. I use the same standards of proof for everything. So either give me evidence or leave me alone.
Psst. It was Bush senior who said atheists aren’t citizens. Not W.
Jenna Jameson’s comment (2nd) puts it into perspective a bit.
Most girls get their first experience in gonzo films – in which they’re taken to a crappy studio apartment in Mission Hills and penetrated in every hole possible by some abusive asshole who thinks her name is Bitch. And these girls, some of whom have the potential to become major stars in the industry, go home afterward and pledge never to do it again because it was such a terrible experience.
It’s not all porn, but a large part of the indie industry. The women-run companies are different. There is definitely some porn that does not degrade women, any more than men. Also, sex can seem degrading when it’s not (for any gender/sex). We have to keep that in mind. But these comments are not about that. They’re about being misled and lied to. Not cool.
