I know some say how “friend zone” stuff is sexist but it happens to everyone. Though, I do agree with most criticisms; what anonymous internet guys say has a very high rate of misogyny.
In my lifetime, I’ve been friend-zoned by a few men and one woman (a lesbian). What I mean to say is that I liked someone who didn’t see me in the same way. This is especially the case if that person is pining for someone else. In one case, I did eventually get un-friend-zoned much later on. I didn’t plan any schemes for that to happen. Time went by.
I agree with some criticisms regarding the typical attempt to un-friend-zone someone with a plan that is sexist (or at least devious). But the basic notion of a “friend zone” is not innately sexist. It’s what one does as a result.
